1st Grade- Monet Season Paintings!

First grade learned about Impressionism for their art history unit. We looked at a PowerPoint about Impressionism and talked about how the impressionists made art about what they saw. We also talked about what it looks like outside during each season. We then looked at some images by Monet that show different seasons.

The next class, I showed the students how to make a realistic tree by starting out with a capital W. They each made two trees, one big and one small. Then I showed them how to add leaves and grass with crayon using just small thick lines like the Impressionists did in their paintings. They had to choose a season and make the leaves match the season. The next class they did a watercolor resist over their drawing.
